DealDotCom & Twitter

13 Sep

DealDotCom

I just signed up for this. Thought it was pretty interesting. I found it at – Entrepreneurs Journey – originally which is a blog I just began following.

And speaking of following – I’m sorry I’ve been rather quiet twitter lately. Just had so much going on, I keep forgetting to update and post stuff. I’m now following some additional cool folks like Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble, Seth Godin and Marlan Sanders to name a few. I thought it was pretty cool that within 5 minutes of adding Scoble, he added me! (Thanks, Robert!) I appreciate that. I think I’m now following everyone who’s following me as well.

Feel free to add me if you’d like. There’s a post here somewhere with all my “social” accounts but here they are again:

Oh! I know what else I wanted to write about today. This coming Saturday, the 15th, Dr. Mani is doing his annual Heart Kids Blogathon and I’m going to participate for a 4-hour chunk of time if I can. Not sure what time yet, but probably later in the evening unless my husband takes the kids to the park or something.

I think that’s it for now. I’ll let you know a little more about Dr. Mani’s project tomorrow.

Sleep well! I’ve been up since 5:30 when my 3 year old decided it was time to get up. UGH! I’m *not* a good morning person. 😦 So, I’m off to bed here shortly.

Please Support Our Troops

3 Sep

I apologize for doing two posts like this in a row, but . . . this is another thing that’s close to my heart –

My cousins husband is a US Marine Corporal who is getting ready to leave for his 2nd tour in the Middle East. As a former Navy gal who served during Operation Desert Storm in the ’90’s, this one brings it home for me again. Eddie will be gone for 9 months or so this time and when he returns, he’ll be finished with his military career – he’s decided not to re-enlist.

Please keep my cousin and her husband in your thoughts and prayers – as well as all of our troops. They are both just young kids – they’re in their early 20’s – not even yet 25. They’ve only been married a year and a half and half of that, Eddie spent on his first tour.

Listen – you don’t have to believe the war is right or just. I sure don’t. Whatever you believe, please know these guys and gals are putting their lives on the line for YOU. And believe it or not, a good many of them don’t believe the war is right, either. But this is their JOB, their duty and they do it with fear and precision, with love and with honor. They do it with pride in American dream, the sense of freedom our forefather fought for so long ago. Don’t let them fight in vain. Please support the troops regardless of what you personally think about Bush and his war. (And that’s all I will say on this subject.)

And – Happy Labor Day to everyone in the US.

The Usefulness of Twitter

22 Aug

The Usefulness of Twitter

You know, I wasn’t sure of the usefulness of Twitter when I first heard about it. Seemed like a huge waste of space and time. But I signed up anyway and installed a desktop client so I didn’t have to have the browser open all the time to follow along.

Even so, I fully expected the novelty to wear off in a few days and it would go quietly into the night as such programs often do.

Boy, was I surprised!

It’s still hanging around my desktop via Twitterific (an app for Mac), chirping away every time someone sends a twitter. And I quite enjoy it being there.

And I have found, it is VERY useful.

Right, you say?

Well . . . yes, it is!

See, it’s good for networking, exploring websites, learning, communication, sharing, and it has become of those “social best friends” Ed Dale talks about in the 30 Day Challenge. Those friends that get you into the nightclub. 😉

I have found websites I probably would not know anything about otherwise. I’ve met new friends and business associates who have similar interests and formed networks that will be useful long after the 30dc is over. It enables me to quickly and easily share tidbits that could be helpful for others too.

And besides all of that, it’s just fun! Because when you get down to it, isn’t that what life is about? Having fun, making friends and building networks.

Taking Breaks

12 Aug

Since the start of the 30 Day Challenge, Ed Dale as advocated taking time to get out of the house/office and into the “real” world. So – this weekend I have largely spent doing other things.

Friday evening my husband took the kids for a walk to the corner store to get ice cream. That left me with some much needed peace and quiet for half an hour or so. I used the time to just relax in the quietness a little bit and listen to music, which is always wonderful time spent.

Saturday my oldest daughter and I went shopping. First, we went to the office supply store to look at school supplies, keyboards and headsets. I needed some new pens too (mine always seem to go missing with 4 sets of kid fingers in the house!) and had quite a time picking them out. Guess I’m too picky for your average pen. 😉 (That must be the writer in me.) Also looked for colored envelopes for our invitations to a birthday bash our family is having in September. Didn’t find anything interesting, though. Didn’t find any good headsets, either.

After shopping there for an hour, we headed over to the street fair where a friend of mine had a booth. We chatted with her for a little while then checked out all the other booths. Found a gal who makes her own tea from ingredients she (mostly) grows organically herself. Purchased 3 flavors for my mom whose birthday was Friday. She loves tea so the gift is perfect. She’s been busy, though, so I haven’t seen her yet this weekend. I’m sure she will love them and I can’t wait to give them to her. The seller was out of the tea tins to put them in so they’re just wrapped in a bright plastic wrapper. Mom will get a kick out of that.

Once we were done at the street fair, we went to another store to look at headsets there. I did find one that I liked well enough but it’s not exactly what I wanted but I decided to buy it anyway. I’m going to have to take it back, however, because the cord was broken when I opened the package! That’s quite a bummer. 😦

We then headed to the grocery store to do our weekly shopping. I always find it easier to shop when I’m hungry because otherwise nothing sounds appetizing. I enjoy cooking but I’m not a real big eater. In fact, I only eat because it’s necessary. It would not hurt my feelings at all if one day God decided we could survive without food. 😉 Then with the shopping done, we headed home.

We noticed lots of interesting things in our adventures yesterday and the street fair has given me TOO many ideas. It’s now a matter of whittling them down to something that is not only interesting but that has potential.

Today I have just been relaxing and listening to music. Loaded a bunch more of my CD’s into iTunes and played around with Facebook a little bit.

Now it’s time for some coffee and a snack . . . hope you’re enjoying the weekend and getting caught up with the day’s lessons.
